Freshen Up Your Face This Holiday Season with Microdermabrasion
It’s that time of the year again. You’ve settled in for cooler weather and are making plans for the holidays with your friends and loved ones. In addition to everything else on your holiday to-do list, you want to look your best.
One way to do that is with microdermabrasion, a skin treatment that can help remove blemishes, leaving your skin looking even and smoother. If you’d like to give your skin a holiday boost, Dr. Javier Zelaya and his team at Skinworks Dermatology in New York City can help.
Facts about microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion is among the top five most-performed nonsurgical cosmetic procedures.
It uses gentle sanding to exfoliate the skin, allowing new skin cell growth. It also promotes collagen production; collagen is a protein essential to keeping your skin firm.
Microdermabrasion affects the upper layer of skin (epidermis) and can effectively treat several areas of the body, including the face, back, neck, hands, and chest. The results give you renewed skin that helps you look and feel better.
How the process works
The microdermabrasion procedure takes up to a half-hour, and we perform it in the Skinworks Dermatology office.
Your provider uses a handpiece with a diamond tip to treat the targeted areas. The device combines gentle abrasion with suction to remove dead skin cells. The suction also stimulates blood flow and collagen production.
Afterward, we may provide a cream for your skin to combat any redness or dryness; otherwise, you’re free to get on with your day.
You should see results shortly after we finish the procedure. However, we recommend monthly treatments for optimal results.
Skin problems that microdermabrasion can address
Microdermabrasion can treat several types of skin blemishes, such as:
- Acne scars
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Clogged or enlarged pores
- Hyperpigmentation (age spots and other forms of discoloration)
- Uneven complexion
- Stretch marks
- Sun damage
Generally, people with otherwise healthy skin who have some imperfections are good candidates for microdermabrasion.
You may not be a good candidate for this procedure if you have moderate or severe acne, rosacea, open wounds, active cold sores, eczema, and psoriasis. If you’ve used the acne medication isotretinoin in the last six months, you should avoid microdermabrasion.
Microdermabrasion can be a great option to improve your skin for the holidays or any time of year. To learn more, call the Skinworks Dermatology office in Maspeth, Chelsea, or Park Slope, or request your appointment online today.
